School History

1948
Established as Tobe Women's Dressmaker's School.
1951
Approved by the government of Kanagawa and later founded as the Educational Corporation of Ishikawa Institute of Women's Dressmaker's School
1964
The Ministry of Education announces reform plans for "Specialized Educational Programs" for various educational institutions.
1966
The Ministry of Education announces reform plans for "Specialized Educational Programs" for various educational institutions.
1978
Tobe Women's Dressmaker's School establishes special training courses, becoming a Special Training School.
1997
The construction of the new campus is completed.
2001
The school is renamed as the Yokohama Institute of Design. In October, foreign students were welcomed to attend the Japanese course for the first time.
2005
Studies of Media Technology is separated to three courses, which are the IT Business course, Web Creating course and the Japanese-Chinese-Korea translating course.
2006
The Japanese one year course is founded.
2007
The Information Media course is renamed to the Media Design. The Manga (Japanese animation) course is newly established.
2008
Dance and Vocals course is newly added.
2010
Planning to establish "Total Japanese Language Class."
2012
